Michael McCool, cut his teeth working for Chris Cunningham and Jonas Åkerlund at Ridley Scott Associates. He was soon commissioned by James Jagger to direct the video for his punk outfit Turbogeist’s debut EP. Eventually, Michael went freelance to work on music video and short-form documentaries for various record companies, becoming known for his eye-catching, high- energy films.
His successes include winning a global competition run by Universal Music for directors to reimagine a music video for the 25th anniversary of Underworld’s cult hit “Born Slippy”, which featured in the soundtrack to Trainspotting. McCool’s winning effort has gone on to garner over three million YouTube views in 12 months. For the past year McCool – who was recommended to MR PORTER by Piers Wenger, head of drama at the BBC – has worked on the Arianne Phillips documentary.
